The last two days have been wonderful adventures for me. Yesterday I went out to eat dinner with a friend. We had some delicious green chili chicken enchiladas at Los Dos Amigos, we went for a scenic drive. We saw some of the prettiest countryside there is, and wound up in Utopia, Texas. Naturally I wanted my photo taken in Utopia, so I stood by the Welcome to Utopia sign, and my friend took my picture for me. Then I also took a photo of the beautiful sunset in Utopia.Today was also a fun, exhilarating day! I went to the beautiful Kerrville-Schreiner Park on the Guadalupe today. I amazed the heck out of myself by actually renting a kayak for an hour. I saw them for rent in the river area of the park and thought about renting one for an hour. At first I was hesitate though. Afraid, what if I tip over? Or can't even get in the damn thing? So I went hiking on the other side of the park instead. But every step I took Morris, my maniacal blue muse was nagging me. "You should rent the kayak. You used to go canoe paddling all the time in Australia. So what if you fall in? Jeez you swim like a fish. Be like that old Nike commercial woman, and just do it!"
Finally I got tired of listening to the little blue brat, so I went back to the river section of the park, and forked out 10 bucks cash for an hour in a kayak. That turned out to be the best $10 I ever spent! I liked it so much, I'm thinking of getting me a small kayak. Yes you read that right, BB is seriously considering getting a kayak.
Until I do get my own kayak, I will be going back there to rent one again. Paddling, and just floating at times on the river was an absolutely incredible feeling. I am so very glad I decided to check out that park, and rent the kayak. I promised myself to have as many little adventures as possible, and today was a marvelous one :)
And yes, as I was paddling that kayak and enjoying the beautiful scenery all around me, I did find myself wishing Larry and I could have been doing that together. But as I have said in the past, if wishes were fishes, we would be up to our asses in tuna. But, in a way, I think, I hope Larry somehow was enjoying that kayak ride with me. And I hope I made him proud being brave enough to rent it and strike out with that paddle on my own.
Right now I am proud of me. Stepping into that kayak wasn't easy for me. I was excited, but also scared. Once I stepped into it though, and settled into the seat, the fear left me. As the lady who rents the kayaks shoved me off, and I dipped that paddle into the water for the first time I knew I was going to be fine. I admit I need more practice, which I'm going to get, but all in all, for a 56 year old recently widowed woman who hasn't touched a paddle or oar since her teenage years, I think did pretty darn good today.
